There is a shadowy apparition that has been spotted along the train tracks carrying a lantern. Witnesses have reported coming close to him, and he vanishes. He can usually be seen on summer nights.

I've seen this referenced on a few paranormal sights, with no confirmation. The railroad (long gone) that ran to Hayden was on the west side of the lake, nowhere near Colburn creek. I believe the Colburn Creek associated with the ghost story is in Bonner County north of Sandpoint, near the unincorporated town of Colburn.
